Passage of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 made the development of nuclear power possible. The government immediately began its promotion of the peaceful use of atomic energy with the issuance of the "Atoms For Peace" U. S. first-class postage stamp. America's nuclear propaganda program was launched.
The Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) partnered with General Electric (GE) to obtain the very first Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) license to operate the Vallecitos Nuclear Facility near San Francisco.
Six years later, PG&E launched the world's first privately funded nuclear venture at the company's Humboldt Bay Power Plant facility located a few miles south of Eureka, California.

My Humboldt Diary reveals the all too often intertwined nefarious behavior of corporate America and government. It provides historical knowledge for understanding the horrible legacy of the ill-fated Humboldt Bay Nuclear Power Plant. PG&E's Humboldt Bay nuclear facility cost $33 million to build. The plant operated for a total of 13 years with many shutdowns during its operating life. The cost of decommissioning the plant is now approaching a BILLION dollars with no real end in sight.
